Traditional Crafts and Cultural Artefacts
Focus
(Issues, needs, challenges)
Center of the Japanese Culture and Traditional Crafts industry, Kyoto is host to numerous talented craftsmen, themselves the living recipients of a succession of generational knowledges, creative techniques and existential reflections on the Japanese culture and identity.
Looking at this ecosystem’s preservation and transmission challenges, there is a unique opportunity to understand the roots of our modern society and a precious chance to use, adapt and transform the ancestral techniques and knowhows so that they benefit to the future generations.
(Issues, needs, challenges)
Ancient knowledges also survived the ages by taking form into cultural artefacts. However, accessing them is all the more difficult because of the constraints attached to these precious artifacts.
Around the world, researchers have developed techniques that allow non-intrusive and non-destructive analysis of such artifacts, unravelling hidden mysteries and underlying beauty, providing our modern society with new insights and answers.
Not restricted to Japan
